Krystal Psota is a contemporary dance artist and teacher (as well as a photographer and organic farmer and soon to be certified yoga instructor). Krystal began her dance training at age three and grew up with a strong focus on R.A.D. Classical ballet, completing the syllabus exams from Pre-Primary to Grade Eight Award, and Pre-Elementary to Intermediate. Over the course of her training, Krystal broadened her dance vocabulary to include modern/contemporary, jazz, lyrical, flamenco, Spanish, Irish, tap, hip-hop, break dancing, character, and rhythmic gymnastics and musical theatre. Krystal’s overall passion for Contemporary dance led her to Simon Fraser University’s contemporary dance program, from which she graduated in June 2007 with a BFA-Dance and CLA, with a strong focus on performance and choreography. While at SFU she had the privilege of working with and performing works of many professional Canadian dancers and choreographers such as Day Helesic, Peter Bingham, Helen Walkley, Rob Kitsos, Emily Molnar, Judith Garay, Sheryl Prophet, Deanne Kuby-Trepanier, Martha Carter, Helene Blackburn and Serge Bennethan. Over the course of her studies she achieved recognition from and became a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society. After graduating from S.F.U., Krystal danced with the Vancouver based contemporary dance collective, stARTdance as well as with Desiree Dunbar Dance Projects. stARTdance performed annual choreographic works created by Vancouver based dance artists such as Desiree Dunbar, Vanessa Goodman, Megan Goodman and Chengxin Wei, throughout Vancouver at events such as; CCDS, LINK, Chutzpah Festival, 2010 Olympic Community Happenings and The Interplay Projects. For two of the five years she was a member of stARTdance, she held the position of the interim artistic director where in addition to performing with the collective, she also taught contemporary classes and created choreography for it. During that time, she also taught recreational and competitive level contemporary/modern classes and adult ballet classes at Mellado Dance Elite. Krystal took a brief break from teaching and performing after this point in order to facilitate the development of her small organic farm, construct Krystal C. Psota's Studio267 (which is located on the farm) and to advance her architectural photography skills. Krystal is currently teaching Junior, Intermediate and Senior level competitive contemporary dance at Fabulous Feet School of Dance in Maple Ridge. She is working towards attaining her 200H Yoga teacher training certification as well. At Studio267, Krystal will be teaching Ballet, Contemporary/Modern Dance Fitness, Fitness at the Barre, Stretch & Relax and once she's certified, Hatha & Vinyasa Yoga as well as Yoga Fusion.
Once the studio gets up and running, I plan on inviting some guest teachers to teach classes.
